If you’re planning to travel to or traverse Germany on Friday, you might want to make new plans, as the Ver.di Union is calling its members out on strike.
Good luck if you’re planning to go through Frankfurt on Friday – Image, Economy Class and Beyond.
The Verdi union has called for all-day strikes at several German airports between 22:00 on Thursday 16th February, to 22:00 Friday 17th. They are negotiating on behalf of ground service staff, public sector officials and aviation security workers. Ver.di is conducting collective bargaining is currently being conducted for all three employee groups.
Affected airports will include:
- Frankfurt am Main – Heavy Disruption
- Munich – No Flights
- Stuttgart – Distruption Expected
- Hamburg – No Flights
- Dortmund – Cancellations and Delays expected
- Hanover – Cancellations expected
- Bremen – Massive disruptions expected
Impact
If the strike goes ahead (which seems increasingly likely), certain airports are closing down or restricting services. Above are the airport links with their strike news (which is mostly located on their front pages).
Some airports are closed, whilst others expect heavy disruption.
This comes on top of the snafu that Lufthansa had earlier today.
