Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (4th March)

04/03/2023 by Kevincm

We’ve hit March. Crap. March already?

With Spring in the Northern hemisphere not far away, birds starting to sing and a lack of Voi Scooters on the streets of Birmingham, it must be time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Good news. No Voi Scooters on the road for a while. Bad news: they’re on their way back when the council can finalise a contract.

New Aircraft News

  • Airbus delivers its first A321neo to Egyptair – Another new territory for the A321neo
  • Lufthansa signs for 15 Airbus A350 and seven Boeing 787-9 – And yes, they’ll get Allegris. There’s also a new type for the airline to operate too.

Routes and Networks

  • Norse Atlantic Airways adds further UK to North American routes – Seven routes in total out of Gatwick by Norse Atlantic
  • Aer Lingus Regional to add Belfast – Isle of Man, Bristol – Cork – Two more regional connections
  • Oman Air plans a busy summer 2023 – Some major capacity increases ahead
  • ITA Airways to add a third daily flight between Rome and New York – Three times a day with ITA or Delta? You decide.

Alliances

  • Virgin Atlantic formally joins SkyTeam – Well, that’s taken long enough, hasn’t it?

Passenger Experience

  • Finnair add Moomins to their Airbus A350 aircraft – Welcome back after a long break, Moomins.
  • Korean Air tries upcycling life jackets, converting them to cosmetics kits – Well, at least they’re upcycling.

Allegris

It’s been a big week for Lufthansa Group as they attempt to push their Allegris product and concept into the real world. Can they though?

  • SWISS unveils its new cabin product – Senses. HEY – Wait a second… – In an odd twist, I covered the SWISS variant first, rather than the Lufthansa one…
  • Lufthansa reveals more details about its Allegris product, with the spectre of monetisation not far away… – Want all the extras of Allegris? Prepare to pay.

Trains

  • Breathing new life back into the battery train project – Great Western Railway spends and pushes forward – Well, the fast-charge battery trial wasn’t dead. It was just sleeping. Like a certain parrot.

Pretty Pictures

  • Icelandair Boeing 757-200 arriving at Dublin Airport?
