Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (5th August)

05/08/2023 by Kevincm

It’s the end of another wet week in Birmingham – so it’s time for our traditional look back at the week in Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Painting the city with a rainbow – A Rainbow next to the Chamberlin Clock, Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham (this was taken a couple of weeks ago… today was a lot wetter – see the Scooter post).

Trip Report – Back to Innovation, Back to Hamburg.

We’re in the final throws of this trip report, as it’s taken more than a little effort to write it this time. This travel writing thing doesn’t get easier.  The last two parts will be out next week.

  • Heading off to Hamburg Airport
  • Hamburg Airport Lounge
  • BA967 Hamburg Airport to London Heathrow (CLUB EUROPE)

Passernger Experiance

  • Accessibility in the Air: United Airlines to add Braille to its aircraft interiors – It’s taken time, but it’s a big step for some travellers.
  • easyJet to offer night-time luggage dropoff at Glasgow Airport – For those with families and staying near an airport the night before, this a valuable option.

Routes and Networks

  • Etihad to launch Abu Dhabi to Boston services in Spring 2024 – the fourth relaunched destination for Etihad.
  • British Airways adds new short-haul routes for winter – More choices with equally tight flight times are now available for booking.

New Aircraft News

  • Wizz Air signs for another 75 Airbus A321neo aircraft – The growth continues unabated.

AirJapan opens bookings

  • Air Japan outlines initial operations and passenger experience features – Bangkok will be the first destination
  • AirJapan to deploy BlueBox Aviation’s Blueview service for In-Flight Entertainment – with BlueBox to provide IFE and Passenger Sales technology

Going Underground

  • Siemens‘s next-generation Underground train heads off for testing – The first of 94. But we’ll see if we get the ones needed for the Bakerloo Line.

Do you Scoot?

  • eScooters return to Birmingham – Wonderful. Just… Wonderful.

Pretty Pictures

  • Japan Airlines Boeing 777-300ER on final approach to Chicago O’Hare

Next Week

I might do something I haven’t done for a few months next week. It might involve dealing with Brimginham Airport. But where you might ask? You’ll find out in next week’s update.

And you’ll love the carrier too.

For the rest of the time, it’s still summer, so the news season is more silly than usual. Therefore, I need to make my own content. Going to an airport will fix that 😉

Until then, stay safe and happy landings!
