Azul Linhas Aéreas is increasing its long-haul fleet, with the airline disclosing it has ordered a further four Airbus A330-900neo aircraft
The firm order for the four additional A330-900s follows from a purchase agreement signed in June 2023. The airline will expand its fleet and international route offering with these aircraft.
Currently, Auzl operates five A330-900neo aircraft in its fleet. It also operates four distance-optimised Airbus A330-200 and two Airbus A350-900 in its long-haul operation.
Inside, the aircraft will be configured with the Airspace by Airbus cabin. Further details such as seating, connectivity and so on have yet to be decided.

Alexandre Malfitani, Azul’s Chief Financial Officer said:
“We are proud to announce this order, as it confirms Azul as the airline with the most fuel- efficient fleet in the region, with over 80% of our capacity coming from next-generation aircraft. With the five A330neos we currently operate and the seven we now have on order, we will standardize our international fleet, allowing us to further enhance Azul’s renowned customer experience and on-time performance,”
Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International added
“Azul’s re-confirmed confidence in the A330neo underscores once again, that the A330neo’s economics and performance are making a true difference in Azul’s widebody strategy, coming out on top of the competition,”
“While Azul will leverage the full potential of Airbus’ unique commonality between its A330 and A320 Family fleets, passengers can rave about a spacious, best-in-class cabin experience – and this on every long-haul flight the airline offers on its attractive, globally growing network.”
Growing the network
Before moving into the widebody, Azul was mainly focused on Brazilian and South American traffic. Since then, it has branched out, with services to North America and Europe as well as expanding its South American network.
The A330neo helps with that, with its Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines allowing the type to fly 7,200 nm / 13,300 km non-stop.
For Azul, it’s another step forward as it continues to expand its focus from its domestic markets to countries way beyond its borders.
