One of the nice things when flying SWISS is the pre-arrival chocolates – it’s a simple passenger experience thing that caps the service off flying with them. For those who enjoy them, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) and Swiss food manufacturer Delica are to extend their collaboration for a further three years.
SWISS passengers have been enjoying ‘SWISS Schöggeli’ milk chocolate bars from Frey, one of Switzerland’s oldest chocolate brands which is part of the Migros organization’s Delica subsidiary, since 2015 (and there are plenty of Migros’s around in Switzerland if you feel the need to indulge).
The little pre-landing treat is a popular tradition at SWISS and has long been a firm fixture in the company’s inflight service. In addition to its classic incarnation, the ‘SWISS Schöggeli’ is also produced in special seasonal editions for occasions such as Christmas and Easter.

SWISS Chief Commercial Officer Heike Birlenbach.
“Switzerland is famed the world over for its chocolate,”
“So with our being a Swiss airline, our ‘SWISS Schöggeli’ are not just a delight: they’re also a tradition, and a little piece of Switzerland aloft. And I’m very pleased that we can now continue to offer our inflight guests this top-quality Frey chocolate treat.”
Daniel Meier, Delica’s Head of Key Account Management Business Unit Food.
“We are proud to extend our collaboration with SWISS for a further three years,”
“For us, this is a confirmation of the consistently high quality of the product and the service we provide. And we look forward to continuing to treat SWISS travellers from all over the globe to our chocolates.”
A whole lot of chocolate to give out
Let’s be honest – this is not a small contract by any means, with SWISS’s cabin crew members handed out some 19.3 million ‘SWISS Schöggeli’ bars – on average 45,000 pieces a day.
Or if you want to work on weight – about 270 metric tonnes of chocolate. SWISS Magazine has an article in the production of them
That’s … a lot to put it bluntly.
Having a high-quality trusted supplier who can meet the needs of a core part of the SWISS passenger experience is important for the airline. It seems this move cements the relationship between Delica, Frey and SWISS.
As well as the many chocolate bars to follow.

This goes way back further than 2002 when Swiss launched… the airline was built around what had been Swissair’s regional subsidiary, Crossair. Every Crossair flight ended with crew handing out a Crossair moulded coin which was a decent thickness and about eight centimetres in diameter. It was a real treat and oh-so-delicious! Quite a bit more chocolate than what they hand out today.
The pre-landing chocolate treat has in recent years been rolled out on Austrian & Lufthansa flights.
