AIX24: Collins Aerospace unveils its new “Helix” seat

29/05/2024 by Kevincm

At Aircraft Interiors Expo 2024, Collins Aerospace has unveiled its new next-generation seat – Helix.

Helix is aimed at deployment for the main cabin (economy class cabin) for narrow-body aircraft

The seat has been engineered to reduce weight (in comparison) to previous generations of economy-class seats while maintaining ergonomic comfort and improving living space without impacting cabin density.

It features the use of high-strength-to-weight composite materials with an advanced design to enable definitive weight savings over similar economy-class seats.

This is important as it reduces the overall carry weight of aircraft, associated fuel burn and carbon emissions.

The seat features a reimagined frame design to optimise passenger seat back angles for longer-lasting comfort but also improves cushion integration – enhancing ergonomics, product longevity and consistency across cabins and fleets. It is fittable both with PED holders, as well as IFE screens, whilst retaining the full tray back.

Power can also be integrated into the seat.

In Quotes

Christophe Blanc, vice president and general manager of Aircraft Seating at Collins Aerospace.

“Helix seating was developed with three key pillars in mind – comfort, reliability and sustainability,”

“The contemporary design increases passenger living space and under seat stowage, while the seat back is optimized to accommodate a greater number of integrated inflight entertainment (IFE) solutions, literature pockets and full-sized meal trays.

Deployment

Collins is currently engaged with a number of airline customers to introduce the Helix main cabin seat into their narrowbody fleets.

I’m sure we’ll find out a few more details as the show goes on – but we’ll be diving into this product – along with Collins Aerospaces other announcements soon.

    Comfort = good.
    Reliability = ok.
    Sustainability: not a priority when parked in it for 15 hours.
    Looks like Ikea furniture for planes.
