For those SAS Eurobonus members who wish to retain their Star Alliance loyalty, Miles & More (the loyalty scheme for Lufthansa Group) is offering a status match offer.
The status match offer looks like this
- SAS Eurobonus Silver -> Miles & More Frequent Traveller (Star Alliance Silver)
- SAS Eurobonus Gold/Diamond/Pandion -> Miles & More Senator (Star Alliance Gold)
If your application is approved, you will receive the corresponding frequent flyer status in the Miles & More programme within 10 business days, valid until 28 February 2025. You can get a further year extension if you meet the following requirements, either:
- Frequent Traveller Challenge: Complete 2 flight segments with Lufthansa Group airlines or co-issuing Miles & More airline partners by 30/11/2024 to extend status to 28/02/2026.
- Senator Challenge: Complete 6 flight segments with Lufthansa Group airlines or co-issuing Miles & More airline partners by 30/11/2024 to extend status to 28/02/2026.
In this case, Eligible airlines for this status match include:
- Air Dolomiti
- Austrian Airlines
- Brussels Airlines
- Croatia Airlines
- Discover Airlines
- Eurowings
- LOT Polish Airlines
- Lufthansa
- Lufthansa City
- Luxair
- SWISS
You do need an active Miles & More account to take part. In addition, during the registration process, proof of your eligible frequent flyer status (e.g., a photo of your status card) will be required, and you may be requested to provide and complete an identity check, including your passport or driver’s licence.
Thankfully, this is a free-of-charge status match (unlike some that have been run by StatusMatch.com in the past)
If you’re a SAS Eurobonus member, head to https://lufthansa.statusmatch.com/ to apply.
Worth it?
Miles & More has a lot of uses, given its coverage in Europe and beyond, given its coverage. The extension requirements are not too onerous, given that you only need two segments to retrain Frequent Traveller status (or a return trip), or six segments to hold onto Senator (which should be easy to complete with a multi-stop trip).
If your travel patterns align more with the Star Alliance network, rather than the SkyTeam’s this could be tempting indeed.
