For those travelling in Emirates Business Class from Germany, there’s good news as you can now pre-select your main meal before departure.
This will be offered from all four German gateways from which Emirates operates (Frankfurt, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, and Munich).
This marks an expansion from the service, where it was tested initially in Hamburg for Germany – as well as many other destinations across the Emirates network.
You can order your main hot meal between 14 days and 24 hours before departure. This further enables the airline to ensure guests always receive their favourite meals, whilst only catering to what is needed onboard the aircraft
Passengers can view the menu for their flight online at emirates.de or via the Emirates app and choose from a range of regionally inspired dishes with local ingredients. Special Meals, which cater for dietary, religious or nutritional preferences, can also be pre-ordered.
The pre-order service is now available on more than 100 routes worldwide. To date, more than 135,000 pre-orders have already been delivered on over 30,000 flights, with over 400 a day pre-ordered.
So what happens to this precious data?
According to the airline, the pre-orders are added to existing AI-supported data for tracking customer preferences and information from the cabin crew.
This enables menu planning, the optimal loading of the aircraft with food – and thus cost control.
On board, cabin crew use a specially developed app to view the meal selection and serve the passengers the desired dish.
And as we all know, data makes the airline world go around, as much as fuel and things with wings.
Expanding choice
For those travelling out of Germany, they’ll have access to meals and choices well in advance of departure. And that can be good – especially if there’s more choice than what is planned to be loaded on the cart at an Emirates outstation.
That will be welcome to those who can plan ahead, or have special dietary requirements.
And from a passenger’s viewpoint, choice is good. From an airline’s viewpoint, it means they can plan ahead and reduce the cost of loading extra meals, as well as the cost of lifting them into the sky.
