Korean Air is extending its pre-order inflight meal service to First Class passengers on international flights departing from Korea.
Pre-ordering of meals was originally launched for Prestige Class (Business Class) passengers on select international routes in January 2023 – allowing passengers to choose their meals in advance.
This convenience is now being extended to Korean Air’s First Class passengers, who can also enjoy it. They can pre-select their meals via the airline’s website or mobile app from 60 days up to 24 hours before departure.
The enhanced First Class pre-order menu features a wide range of options, including appetizers, main courses and soups. Passengers can choose their main course from Korean, Western, or vegetarian dishes, and then select complementary appetizers and soups to enjoy.
In addition, Korean Air will offer four to six exclusive menu items that are available only through the pre-order service. For those who are in need of plant-based options, two vegan dishes will also be included in the exclusive menu.
Deployment
The service will initially be available on eight key international routes departing from Korea.
- Los Angeles
- New York
- Atlanta
- San Francisco
- Washington D.C.
- Paris
- London
- Frankfurt.
The airline plans to expand the service to include flights departing from overseas destinations in the future.

A Korean Air representative said on the launch
“We are delighted to expand this new pre-order meal service for our First Class passengers, offering them a broader selection and more control over their inflight dining experience. This initiative not only elevates customer satisfaction but also improves the efficiency of our meal preparation process,”
Good for the passenger, but also good for the airline’s budget.
For passengers who plan ahead, it gives them choice – but also access to other meals that may not be loaded on the aircraft – in this case, Korean Air is loading two extra items into the system that can be offered before departure (and before the catering order needs to be submitted for a flight).
For airlines, it helps reduce waste, by only loading the meals that are needed on the flight, as opposed to multiple options that could end up going in the bin on landing. The side benefits of reducing waste are that they don’t have to lift the weight of those meals into the sky (which adds up over time), as well as the cost of producing those meals.
