Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, has taken delivery of its first Airbus A330neo.
This A330-900 is the first of 20 aircraft to be leased from Avolon by MAG, delivered with the flowing Malaysian flag livery.
MAG’s A330neo is configured with a two-class layout, featuring 297 seats, with 28 fully flat Business Class suites and an all-new Economy cabin accommodating 269 passengers. Passengers will enjoy more personal space throughout, with larger overhead storage, improved air quality and the latest in-flight entertainment and high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity.
The airline will deploy the aircraft on routes across Asia and the Pacific, as well as on selected routes to the Middle East.
MAG is the 20th airline to have taken delivery of an Airbus A330neo family aircraft, as airlines continue to upgrade their fleets, with Airbus having delivered more than 140 A330neo aircraft to airlines worldwide
A little late, however…
Whilst Airbus is happy to announce the delivery via Avolon to MAG, it’s a good few months behind schedule. The aircraft was originally meant to be delivered to MAG in September, with Airbus just squeaking under the line for a “Late November” delivery.
For those who aren’t keeping track of the dates, we’re two days to the end of November, with the aircraft missing its inaugural A330neo flight to Melbourne on 25th November 2024 – with MAG having to lean on the existing Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 fleet a little longer.
With issues with aircraft and delivery delays – with the ongoing supply chain shortage, it’s going to be tough to get all the aircraft out to customers – especially as backlogs are growing into the 2030s now…
