Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (18th January)

18/01/2025 by Kevincm

With January blitzing past faster than you can say, “Wasn’t it just Christmas a few days ago?” It’s time to look back on the week in Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Who needs to be disloyal?

With British Airways seemingly telling its low-spending flyers to “go away, poor people”, some of you will be looking for new homes. Two airlines stepped forward to provide that.

It could be worth a look if you don’t want to spend £7,500 to retain a silver card, let alone the £20,000 to retain gold for an airline group that only wants more than what some people earn in a year.

  • Flying Blue opens a tempting status match for British Airways “The Club” Members – £99 to match. It could well be worth it.
  • Virgin Atlantic launches their status match campaign – Check the matches available. Some of you might want to pause before hitting go on this one.

One less bit of paperworkETAs are

  • UK ETA’s no longer required for airside transfers… for now – It’s “under review”. Take that for whatever HM Government and The Home Office means.

Routes and Networks

  • Finnair and American Airlines deepen codeshares for flights to Mexico – More Finnair Codeshares out of Dallas Fort Worth
  • Qat.ar Airways to resume operations to Malta in Summer – With an A320
  • Emirates to boost services to Madagascar – Six times a week via Scheychelles
  • Scoot to add Vienna, but drop Berlin – Scoot walked in the cold air. Freezing breath on a window pane, lying and waiting…

New Aircraft News

  • Air New Zealand takes delivery of its 30th ATR aircraft – Kia Ora to the 30th ATR for Air New Zealand.

Trains

  • The Great British Rail Sale has begun! – Hurry whilst discounted tickets last

Pretty pictures

  • Airplane Art – Emirates Airbus A380 taxiing at London Heathrow Airport

Next week

For me, to be disloyal, I have to be loyal. Thus, I’m off out sometime next week to a destination I’ve never been to before – but is popular amongst the BA Tier Point runners (Well those under the old system).

You’ll know when I’m flying – check the social feeds for entertainment.

On top of that, we’ll have our usual mixture of news, views, ways to be disloyal and so fo.rth

Until then, Happy Landings!
