Luxair (The national airline of Luxembourg) has selected the Recaro R2 for its Embraer E195-E2

Most notably, this selection of the R2 set was from the Embraer Seller Furnished Equipment (SFE) catalogue. This marks the first award for RECARO based on the RECARO-Embraer SFE catalogue

For over 20 years, Embraer showcased only one supplier in their SFE catalogue. Since 2023, RECARO and Embraer have joined forces to develop a seating catalogue specifically for E1 and E2 aircraft, which includes both the R1 and R2 seats. The Luxair award signifies the official market entrance of the collaborative catalogue of seating options.

Luxair has selected the R2 comfort package, which includes a six-way adjustable headrest with integrated neck support and additional cushion, tablet holder, and the latest in-seat power system, the Astronics Ultralite Generation 2 USB-C 60W system.

Aircraft delivery is projected for November 2025, with an entry into service sometime in December 2025.

Gilles Feith, CEO of Luxair, said

“We are proud to be the first airline to select the R2 seat from the RECARO-Embraer SFE catalogue”

“This decision underscores Luxair’s unwavering commitment to providing an exceptional onboard experience, driven by quality, innovation, and comfort. The R2 comfort package aligns perfectly with our brand promise, and it will allow us to further elevate the travel experience for our passengers. We look forward to introducing these seats on our new E2 aircraft later this year.”

Fernando Antonio Oliveira, VP Programs at Embraer Commercial Aviation, added:

“RECARO Aircraft Seating adds more choice for our customers and reinforces our commitment to enhancing the passenger experience while delivering value to airlines. The RECARO seats look great in our cabins, bring additional options and low weight for our airline customers, and more comfort and amenities for their passengers,”

Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO of RECARO Aircraft Seating and RECARO Holding.

“We are immensely proud to announce that Luxair has selected our R2 seat from the new RECARO-Embraer SFE catalogue,”

“This achievement marks a significant milestone as we establish our presence in the Embraer Seller Furnished Equipment market.”

A comfortable choice for the mission

We’ve seen the Recaro R2 in multiple deployments in the economy and business class cabins. In this Embraer cabin, it’s presented in a 2-2 formation akin this this example shown off at Aircraft Interiors Expo earlier this year.

The Embraer E195-E2 can fly missions of up to 2,600 nautical miles with up to 146 seats installed. Luxair has not disclosed the exact configuration of its new E195-E2 aircraft.

The Recro R2 is a lightweight seat, coming in at a base weight of just under 10kg per seat, whilst offering comfort for those missions. Given the network that Luxair operates around Europe, this should be a passable way to spend between two and three hours shuttling across Europe.
