Taiwan’s China Airlines has placed a firm order for five additional Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, taking its total order for the type to 15. As such, these aircraft are a follow-on from the first 10 ordered. As usual, these aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce XWB-97 engines.

The aircraft will join the carrier’s existing fleet of 15 A350-900s flying on the carrier’s long-haul route network.

China Airlines is a mixed operator customer, with them operating Airbus and Boeing aircraft in its fleet.

Kao Shing-Hwang, Chairman of China Airlines, said:

“Expanding our A350-1000 fleet marks another important step in our long-term growth strategy.  The A350’s exceptional efficiency and passenger comfort align with our goals to modernise our  fleet, enhance long-haul competitiveness and deliver an elevated travel experience to our  customers,”

Benoit de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President of  Commercial Aircraft Sales, added:

“We greatly value our long-standing partnership with China Airlines.

This follow-on order is a  strong vote of confidence in the A350-1000 as the right aircraft for China Airlines’ future network ambitions. Its next-generation efficiency, range and cabin comfort will bring even greater value to  the airline and its passengers,”

Expanding the footprint

Another five aircraft – whilst not sounding a lot – it’s another big set of growth for the airline. And it has big backlogs, with them having A321neo, A350-900, A350-1000, Boeing 777-9, Boeing 787-9. Boeing 787-10 and Boeing 777-8F are all in the queue.

With these new A350-1000 planned to take over from the venerable Boeing 777-300ER in the future, these additional aircraft will provide expansion options for China Airlines for its long-haul network.
