Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (17th January)

17/01/2026 by Kevincm Leave a Comment

Good news, everyone – we’re past the halfway point of January, as we head into the marketing blitz of Blue Monday and the travel deals that might not turn up.

Anyway, it’s Saturday at the time of writing – it must be time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

TRIP REPORT: Growing Old in Style

This week, we’re dipping in and out of Singapore this week, as I continue on to Kuala Lumpur.  Next week, we have adventures in KL.

  • TRIP REPORT: TK54 Istanbul to Singapore (Business Class)
  • Into Singapore and the Ibis Budget Ruby – Growing Old in Style
  • Off to Singapore Changi T4 and AirAsia AK710 Singapore to Kuala Lumpur

New Aircraft News

  • Delta Air Lines to add Boeing 787 Dreamliners to its fleet – It seems Delta have decided on its 767 replacement
  • TAP Air Portugal steps up its Porto Base – Developing its northern base

Loyalty or lack thereof

  • Flying Blue Status match returns for UK Residents – if you’re a BA Silver member, or one who has been on the fence, its time to consider an option… fast.

Routes and Networks

  • Emirates to launch a new route to Helsinki, with an Airbus A350 – Competition for Finnair and Qatar Airways on the Finnish route.

I want planes with fricking Sharklets.

  • easyJet to fit remaining A320ceo aircraft with Sharklets – Number 2 would be happy with the savings the sharklets bring. No lasers, though. Lasers and aircraft don’t mix.

IFE+C

  • Lufthansa Group to adopt Starlink inflight connectivity – 850 aircraft in scope.

Trains

  • Caledonian Sleeper to start serving Birmingham – A welcome return to sleeper trains serving Birmingham

Pretty Pictures

  • Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737-8 taxiing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport

Next Week

I’m working on a couple of trips in the background, as well as sorting out some other bits and bobs  – thus I’m in deep planning mode at the moment.

We’ll also have four parts from the trip report next week as I bumble around KL (as I’ve been doing the background preparation for it).

As well as that, if there are some interesting news headlines, we’ll bring them to you at our usual speed.

Until then, happy landings!
