Breaking late this evening (as I logged into another email account to check something else, there are changes afoot earning Avois with Uber in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
If you have your Uber account connected to an Avios-earning account (either British Airways Executive Club or Aer Lingus Gold Circle), these will impact you.
You will now collect Avios at a higher rate for rides booked in advance using Uber Reserve, trips to and from airports, and select train or premium ride options. UberX and Taxi rides will collect Avios only if they are booked via Uber Reserve or are taken to or from an airport.
The updated earning rates for these qualifying trip types will be as follows:
- Uber Reserve: 3 Avios per eligible £1/€1 spent (Uber Reserve in the UK, Taxi Reserve and Uber Black Reserve in Ireland)
- Airport Trips: 2 Avios per eligible £1/€1 spent
- Select Premium Ride Options: 2 Avios per eligible £1/€1 spent (including Uber XL, Uber Exec, Uber Lux, Uber Comfort, Uber Exec XXL, Black Cab in the UK, in Ireland Taxi Max, Taxi XL and Uber Black trips)
- Train Trips: 2 Avios per eligible £1 spent (both UK Domestic and Eurostar)
- Uber Eats: 1 Avois per eligible £1/€1 spent, with a minimum spend of £25/€25
The updated earn rules and qualifying trip types will be available in the Uber app and on the partnership landing page from 15 June.

Check when you ride
As part of how I access work, I’m using Uber a lot in the mornings to get to the office (and especially after last week). Uber points tend to be rewarded the same day (if not shortly after a ride is complete), so I’ve more than an open interest to see how this shakes up in the lower end of the market.
But for those going to airports, or paying for the high-end Uber rides, there is a good chance to double or triple the points you earn, as well as for those of us who book train tickets via the Uber platform (and I’m doing that more often than not).
One to keep an eye on over the next few weeks, that’s for sure.
