Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (15th August)

15/08/2026 by Kevincm Leave a Comment

It’s that time of the week when the UK has cooled a little bit; we’ve all had a fun emergency alert on Friday night, and the weekend is here. And oh yes, there was a partial solar eclipse too. But there are other headlines in the world of aviation – thus, it’s time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Transit. (Shot safely with an iPhone).

Routes and Networks

  • VietJet Air to serve Western Sydney International Airport – Then there were five passenger carriers serving WSI.
  • Riyadh Air continues network building, with services to Pakistan and the Philippines – Three more destinations for the growing carrier.
  • Delta to add Austin to Paris summer seasonal service – Coming Summer season 27.

New Aircraft News

  • Heart Aerospace takes its X1 Battery-Electric Aircraft into the sky – This is interesting, given the number of people this can carry on electric power, and the possibilities the hybrid version can bring. One to watch as they move to the ES-30

Passenger Experience

  • KLM to introduce a Buy-On-Board offering on Short-Haul flights – At least some drinks and stroopwafels will still be complimentary.

 The Business of Aviation

  • Korean Air and Asiana continue to edge towards completing the merger – Towards 17th December, hopefully. It’s taken long enough, with this merger taking almost six years so far.

IFE+C

  • Lufthansa Group to commence Starlink operations from the 19th August – Starting with the A320neo fleet, it seems

Travel Technology

  • Google launches the Pixel Tag – A first-party item tracker – Tag, you’re it.

Pretty pictures

  • British Airways Airbus A380 landing at London Heathrow – Shot before it went off for refurbishment.

Next Week

We are still deep in the summer season, with the summer silly stories that we normally avoid being more prevalent than ever, it seems. However, we’ll keep on digging for the interesting stories, as well as a few other things in the background.

There will be some prepared content coming out too, as there may be points I won’t be able to get to a keyboard for a reason or another. Trust me – you’ll know it when you see it.

And that might mean something very fun for your author ahead. And yes, lots of interesting stories ahead. But this week is getting all those ingredients in the oven and cooking them to the right temperature.

So until next week, I’m gonna cook in the background.

Happy Landings!
