Post Olympic long-haul sales are starting to hit….

16/08/2012 by Kevincm

Well in a move to get people flying after the 30th Olympiad, it seems that fare sale season has hit, with cheap fares loaded on long haul routes from London to the USA (with me looking at London - Chicago Routes): Currently those on sale have about £30 - £70 off with the following groupings taking part: AirFrance/Delta/KLM British Airways/American … [Read more...]

Delta to introduce Boeing 717’s into their fleet

09/07/2012 by Kevincm

It seems that a deal has been hammered out over the 717's with Delta and Boeing, Southwest Airlines. The agreement is for 88 Boeing 717-200's to be leased from Boeing Capital or subleased from Southwest Airlines, with 3 aircraft a month to be delivered from August 2013. The year-on-year delivery plan looks something like this: 16 to be transferred in 2013 36 to be … [Read more...]

More WiFi in the air – Delta to add WiFi to its International Fleet

28/06/2012 by Kevincm

It seems in-flight WiFi is the rage of the season, with Delta (who offer WiFi on its US Domestic services via Gogo) now wanting to offer WiFi on international services. Where as the WiFi for US Domestic is operated on a Ground to Air Technology (using a version of EV-DO), for International flights, it'll be an Air to Satellite product (a KU-Band) - again offered by … [Read more...]

Delta to drop Detroit to Hong Kong direct service

26/06/2012 by Kevincm

Delta is the process of rationalising and tidying its network at the moment, and up for the chop is the direct Detroit - Hong Kong route. The route will be suspended from 29th August . Delta is blaming the cost of fuel and the fluctuations in demand for this ultra-long haul trip - which isn't surprising considering the length of these ultra-long haul flights (13 hours or … [Read more...]

Delta waves goodbye to Gatwick, boosts frequencies to Heathrow

23/02/2012 by Kevincm

It seems that Delta is finally turning its full attention to Heathrow, with the announcement of a second daily flight from London Heathrow to Atlanta, but at a price for Gatwick, which looses its last Delta service (also serving Atlanta) Since Delta has had access to London Heathrow, services have moved over at a pace with New York-JFK services moving completely over first, … [Read more...]

Delta to make a bid for AMR (American)???

12/01/2012 by Kevincm

Well, I was planning to go bed, but this is breaking. The Wall Street Journal has published an article that could have serious ramifications if there's the money to do... and the will.  And it involves Delta looking with hungry eyes with Delta. The full article at the Wall Street Journal (sub required) , however the AFP has posted a precis of the article. Delta Air Lines … [Read more...]

What happens to you luggage when it leaves your hands?

29/12/2011 by Kevincm

Delta answers the question with a Video of what happens when your bag disappears down the luggage belt and off into the blue wild yonder of an airport luggage sorting system Of course, this is to plug their baggage tracking function they have in the Fly Delta App. I swear this is missing something. Like the pile of TSA tape and the free throwing around some bags … [Read more...]

Airline Repaint Video Saturday – Delta 747-400

10/12/2011 by Kevincm

Well, I've given up trying to find new safety videos for a bit as I seem to going around in circles finding new good ones. So for the remainder of December, it's going to be "Airline Repaint Video Saturday". Not the snappiest of titles, I'll grant you that, but it sort of works. This week, it's an extended cut of a Northwest (remember them?) 747-400 being repainted into … [Read more...]

Baggage fees. Hint: They’re going up. Again.

14/01/2010 by Kevincm

Airlines and Shareholder love more income. Alas, they're targeting the consumer once again with more baggage rises. A quick overview (Note if you have some sort of Elite Status with the airline or alliance, it will probably reduce these costs to nothing): United First Bag:  $25 at the counter,  $23 online for a US Domestic Second Bag: $35  at the … [Read more...]

Mesa enters Chapter 11…

06/01/2010 by Kevincm

Well it seems that the carrier that a lot of people don't like has entered Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection, citing the economy and the downturn. Mesa Air Group operates aircraft for Delta, United and US Airways which is included in its Chapter 11 request. Its joint Hawaiian inter-island operation Go!-Mokulele is not part of the filing. Jonathan Ornstein, chairman and … [Read more...]
