IB: Memo signed – 8 Airbus A330’s on the way

07/03/2011 by Kevincm

Well International Airlines Group has been busy, with an annoucemnt they’ve signed an Memorandum of Understanding for new Airbus aircraft.

They are looking at aquiring 8 Airbus A330-300 aircraft, with options for a further 8.

Subject to negotiations and agreements, these are in line for delivery between Autum 2011 and spring 2014, with the aim of withdrawing Iberia’s Airbus A340 aircraft – however this could be a challenge as there are 35 different A340’s that Ibera operate (in A340-300 and A340-600’s) – more than likely this is the cut for the A340-300’s which can carry around the same amount of passengers (infact more) as a A330-300.

Will there be more purchases? Both British Airways and Iberia’s fleets do need to be examined, and this can’t be ruled out. Time for Airbus and Boeing to brush up their sales pitches….
