Wizz Air attempts to fill the Malev sized hole at Budapest

06/02/2012 by Kevincm

It seems that Wizz Air is racing to try and plug the gaps that have been created by the failure of Malev last Friday morning, with plans to invest money at Budapest, and base two Airbus A320’s from March.

By some magic means, this will boost a 66% increase of capacity for them.

Plans are afoot to launch a three times-weekly service from Budapest-Bucharest. Meanwhile, Wizz Air will boost frequencies to:

  • Antalya
  • Barcelona
  • Bari
  • Bourgas
  • Bologna Forli
  • Brussels Charleroi
  • Catania
  • Corfu
  • Dortmund
  • Eindhoven
  • Frankfurt Hahn
  • Gothenburg
  • London Luton
  • Madrid
  • Malmo
  • Milan Bergamo
  • Naples
  • Palma de Mallorca
  • Pisa
  • Rome,
  • Stockholm Skavsta,
  • Tirgu Mures
  • Turku

This represents one hell of a boost to the LCC – from 67 flights a week to 129 flights, operating a fleet of 34 Airbus A320 aircraft (and increasing) from 15 bases.

Now if Wizz Air can improve its customer service a tiny bit so horror stories like www.wizzairsucks.com don’t appear, things could improve… a bit.
