Day 3 of Farnborough 2012 has come to a close, so let’s see what’s shaking and who has brought what…
- Mitsubishi Aircraft and SkyWest Airlines have agreed in principle to buy 100 Mitsubishi Regional Jets MR90’s. The aim is to run them with Pratt & Whitney PW1200G engines. The final tickboxing should be in the next few weeks subject to contract. You’ll find them operated bySkyWest Airlines and ExpressJet, with deliveries planned to begin in 2017.
- Avolon Leasing of Dublin has committed to purchasing 10 Boeing 737 MAX-8, five 737 MAX -9s and 10 737-800 aircraft, also reconfirming purchasing rights for for five more 737 MAX aircraft.
- The 737-800s are slated for delivery in 2015 and 2016
- CIT Aerospace (another lessor) has ordered for five more A330’s. The interesting headline is that these five will be the new longer range/higher weight variant of the A330’s. CIT expects these birds to be delivered in 2014.
- CALC (a Chinese Lessor) has signed a letter of intent for 36 baseline Airbus A320-family jets, including eight Airbus A320’s – and these could feature the new “Sharklet” wingtips. The aircraft will be manufactured at Toulouse and at the Chinese Airbus plant in Tianjin.
- ATR have been busy on the quiet at this show with four sets of orders so far.
- TransAsia Airways has signed for eight ATR72-600′s
- Lao Airlines has signed for two ATR 72-600’s
- Air Lease has converted two of its ATR72-600 options into purchases.
- Nordic Aviation Capital has ordered one ATR 42-600
- The MD-90 that isn’t an MD-90 – COMAC’s ARJ21 is suffering another delay in it’s programme with first commercial delivery pushed back to to end of 2013. For those who are considering the C919 – this is a bit worrying as it could well impact the development programme of the C919. Certification of the ARJ21 has been an issues to to technical issues left right and centre. The project itself has taken its own sweet time with 10 years since inception to final roll out of the hanger.
Another busy day, and what is turning into the Boeing 737-MAX airshow. More from Farnborough tomorrow!
