In what seems to be an odd story of the day, a Norwegian tourist was caught sleeping on an active luggage belt at Rome Fiumicino airport.
The man climbed over one of the check in desks and fell asleep on the baggage belt that delivers luggage to security and loading
The man made into the luggage system and to the x-ray scanner where he was found curled up asleep on the foetal position. The police were notified, and the luggage system was halted.
In what should surprise no-one, the tourist had been drinking heavily.
Questions have been raised in how the man could get into the system. According to a police spokesman:
“There is a security system – a sort of roll-up blind – which can only be opened by the member of staff who loads the baggage,” the officer said.
“[The Norwegian] could have carried on going round the main belt but he could never have ended up in sensitive areas of the airport.”
The man in question will face charges in relation to the incident… but sleeping on a luggage belt isn’t the most clever idea in the world…
