It’s time for another episode of “Race to the bottom”, today featuring British Airways.
Just under a month ago, BA launched a new fare tier which contained no hold luggage allowance on a few routes. BA seem to be happy with the trial, and will be rolling this fare out to all 32 short haul routes at for flights departing on the 2nd April and beyond.
Your luggage allowance if you choose this fare is 1 large carry-on case up to 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, and a handbag or laptop bag.
The fare difference is between £5 and £15, with hand baggage fares starting at £39 (depending on the route). Existing fares that were released (Restricted EuroTraveller, High EuroTraveller and Club Europe) are still valid and available.
When you book, just make sure you keep an eye out for the no luggage icon – that’ll be you’re indication that you’ve got one of these fares.
So the question is what’s the difference between EasyJet and British Airways short haul at Gatwick?
Well, if you’re a BAGold or Silver (or oneworld emerald or sapphire), you get lounge access still.
For everyone else, onboard, food and drink is included, and there’s also the Avios and tier points too.
For those who aren’t bothered by food or points, it’ll be down to one thing: price.
Is that a battle British Airways can win on? Lets put it like this: some of the base fares start at £1.
Work it out…
