As well as US Airways leaving Star Alliance today, TAM has also left as it continues its merger with LAN.
However, Star Alliance is offering something it isn’t offering for US Airways – a Status Match to some Star Alliance Carriers
You’ll be able to match TAM Red or Diamond status to the following:
- Air Canada Aeroplane
- Air China Phoenix Miles
- Air New Zealand Airpoints
- Copa Airlines Mileage Plus
- Ethiopian Airlines ShebaMiles
- Scandinavian Airlines EuroBonus
- South African Airlines Voyager
- TAP Portugal Victoria
- Turkish Airlines Miles and Smiles
- United Airlines Mileage Plus
As part of the match you will need a photo or scan of your TAM Red or Black card. You’ll also need the frequent flyer programme number of a participating member airline that you wish to match your Star Alliance Gold Status to. The match is live at http://staralliancegold.staralliance.com/.
Once the match has been validated, new credentials will be sent with a Star Alliance Gold status on them.
Additional status is always nice (Not least for the nice luggage tags), but also in handling and such. Whilst the choice of airlines isn’t wide (for example, it’s missing Lufthansa Miles and More, Avancia Life Miles, EVA Air Infinity) – and a match saves a lot of effort of starting from square one when switching airlines.
Matching ends May 30th 2014 (12.00 GMT)
For those who can take advantage of it: take advantage!
