British Airways links London City to Dublin, goes after CityJet

27/06/2014 by Kevincm

In a broadside shot, British Airways is to open a service between London City Airport and Dublin in the upcoming Winter 2014/2015 timetable.

The service between the two capitals will be operated using a mixture of the London City Airport based Embraer E-170 and E-190 jets.

One aircraft will be based in Dublin overnight to provide an early morning link between Dublin and the City of London & The Docklands business district. It will also allow for a full day of business for those who are day-tripping between the two cities.

The timetable looks a bit like this:

London City Airport to Dublin

BA4460 DEPART LCY 06:50 ARRIVE DUB 08:10 Monday-Friday
BA4462	DEPART LCY 08:50 ARRIVE DUB 10:05 Monday-Thursday & Saturday
BA4464	DEPART LCY 14:25 ARRIVE DUB 15:40 Monday-Friday
BA4466	DEPART LCY 18:00 ARRIVE DUB 19:15 Monday-Friday
BA4468	DEPART LCY 19:30 ARRIVE DUB 20:45 Sunday only
BA4468	DEPART LCY 20:25 ARRIVE DUB 21:40 Monday-Friday

Dublin to London City Airport

BA4460	DEPART DUB 07:00 ARRIVE LCY 08:20 Monday-Friday & Saturday
BA4462	DEPART DUB 08:45 ARRIVE LCY 10:00 Monday-Friday
BA4464	DEPART DUB 10:45 ARRIVE LCY 12:00 Monday-Friday
BA4466	DEPART DUB 16:15 ARRIVE LCY 17:30 Monday-Friday
BA4468	DEPART DUB 17:45 ARRIVE LCY 19:00 Sunday only
BA4468	DEPART DUB 19:40 ARRIVE LCY 21:05 Monday-Friday

Data: London City Airport.

So, who is this aimed at? The other major tenant at London City Airport – CityJet. CityJet (who have recently been taken over) have been struggling along recently, and this route will put the two airlines head to head on this city pairing.

Still, for BA Executive Club flyers, as well as those loyal to Oneworld, this will provide a very useful link between the two cities – without wandering all the way to and from Heathrow first thing in the morning or last thing at night.

As for London City Airport, it remains one of my favourite airports. See my behind the scenes tour of the airport, and for my take on the British Airways Embraer EJets

I wish BA would open the NYC to Dublin city service aircraft. It seems the only way to book it is through to LCY which makes the fuel surcharge higher.
