Embraer has rolled out the first of its next generation EJet – the E2 series, and today the E190-E2.

The E2 series is an update of the Embraer E-Jet family (E-170, E175, E190, E195).
Embraer will be taking forward three updates including:
- E2-175 (three jets to be used for testing)
- E2-190 (four jets to be used for testing)
- E2-195 (two jets to be used for testing)
The E2-190 rolled out will be the first in the test campaign.
Unlike the Bombardier CSeries, the E2 has a pretty good order book already, with firm orders for 267 aircraft and 373 options a 640 commitments, 267 of which are firm orders and 373 options/purchase rights.
New things to look out for aboard the E2 are the new powerplants to be used – these are Pratt & Whitney’s PW1900G Geared Turbofan engines, as well as new wings (and wingtip devices).

As well as aerodynamic tidy-ups, Embraer is hoping the E2 will deliver significant reductions in fuel burn and maintenance costs.
Embraer will be aiming for first flight during the second half of 2016, with entry into service 2018 for the E2-190. Meanwhile the E2-195 is scheduled to enter service in 2019 and the E2-175 in 2020.
Meanwhile, there is plenty of time between now and planned first flight for Embraer to test and refine the E2 series.
As a regional jet, I prefer the Embraer E-Jets over pretty much anything else. They’re comfortable to sit in economy class, easy to stow luggage with reasonable overhead bins, roomy for a small jet and they’re pretty impossible to screw up from a passenger experience viewpoint.
And for short hops – that’s what is needed – a good passenger experience.
I’ll be monitoring the E2 Jets… and looking forward to their first flight and entry into service.

I couldn’t agree with you more. The E-series are a great aircraft from the customer perspective. I’d honestly rather sit in economy on an e-series than first class on some mainline services.
