For those of you who browse through Economy Class and Beyond, I’m making a few changes to the site in terms of historical content.
Why am I doing these changes? Preserving a bit of the past of Economy Class and Beyond and GhettoIFE, whilst keeping the content better managed.
In particular:
Images moving to Economy Class and Beyond
This is something that’s been on my mind for some time.
In the dim and distant past, I used to use Photoblog.com to host my images. The idea was to expand the content across platforms (as trip reports were used to be placed on FlyerTalk).
Or it was a place to stick photos and worry about them later.
However, things have changed for quite some time (mainly as I haven’t chosen to use Photoblog.com for quite some time, and rather use Economy Class and Beyond to put my images on). On top of that, some images have been doing silly things on Photoblog – so some images are moving home to Economy Class and Beyond.
Implications: As the originals are buried away, I’m transferring the images over, removing any Photoblog markings and keeping it simple (The projects these images belonged to have long since ceased operation – time to bring them back in-house)
Improvements: The images will be larger and clearer!
Notes: In the first instance, the Trip Report images will migrate over. As time allows – I’ll try to move content that’s elsewhere onto this platform. To be honest, I’m more concerned about the trip reports at present – so those are first to transfer. Airplane Art will follow in due course (as there’s about 90 posts to rebuild from scratch – these have images hosted on blogger/Google Images still)
So far the following have trip reports been modified:
- All trip reports from 2008
- All trip reports from 2009
- 2010 is in progress
- 2011-2014 is a work in progress.
It’s going to take slightly more than a few weekends. I’ve spent 3 weekends on this already… (That, and have you tried to sort through 7TB of photos and tried matching them perfectly? It’s difficult to say the least!)
Removing GIF emoji’s
This is a carry-over from when the trip reports were on FlyerTalk (and when I copied and pasted code between the two sites. I prefer to use other sorts of emojis these days that are built into the host environment.
Implications: You’ll miss out when I’m being sarcastic.
Improvements: Load times should improve. Well. Anything is possible.
Notes: I miss the old  function. (Though it is in the site functionality somewhere).
Dead-link re-builds.
There is still a bit of content that is pointing at GhettoIFE address as opposed to Economy Class and Beyond. Some of those will get fixed
Implications: Stuff within Economy Class and Beyond will actually work. (That’ll be a first – trust me…)
Again, trip reports are the primary target of the fix. If I go through all 5000ish posts…. I think I’d loose what sanity I have.
Notes: Trip Reports and other “critical content” will only be affected. Other content… see above.
Re-telling/Re-writing of some trip reports.
I’ve had a long think about certain past trip reports – and whilst in some cases, there’s not a lot I can add to them (lets say most trips to the USA), there are some stand-out trip reports that need content added to them.
What’s going to happen: A few trip reports will get brand new pictures, and be split into chapters (like all trip reports from 2012 onwards). They’ll be updated with current information where I can update it. Mostly, there will be new content.
The trip reports that will get the re-write treatment include:
- Kevin gets a little Seoul with Asiana and Thai Airways
- Atlanta or Bust! with Lufthansa and United
- A Smooch of Chicago and a kiss of DC featuring United Airlines
- Re-creating a photo: To NYC.
- Others might follow along in due time where there is photographic content.
In addition, I will finally get some of my more historical trip reports over from FlyerTalk and onto here. So expect a lot of trip reports from the past.
On this blog, I look to the future a lot in terms of the Passenger Experience and Passenger Intelligence – allowing you to plan your trips with a little more confidence. That allows you to use your hard-earned points in great ways
However, sometimes its interesting to look back to see what products were like in the past – and how they’ve improved… or in some cases – degraded.
Hold on please. There’s a lot of work ahead for me.
