Scoot prepares to Scoot to Athens

26/08/2016 by Kevincm

Scoot – the low-cost offshoot of Singapore Airlines is preparing to break new ground – with the planed launch of services to Athens.

Scoot says hello to Athens
Scoot introducing their new Athens route in a rather Scooty way.

Scoot intend to operate the route four times a week, based on the timetable below

TZ702 DEPART SIN 02:00 ARRIVE ATH 08:30
TZ701 DEPART ATH 12:00 ARRIVE SIN 04:25+1

Commences: 20 June 2017
Booking through: 29th October 2018
TZ702 operates Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays
TZ701 operates Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays
Booked Equipment: Boeing 787 Dreamliner

The represents Scoots first foray into Europe – something not seen by an Asian Long Haul Low Cost Carrier for some time. The last carrier to attempt this was Air Asia X operating from Kuala Lumpar to the United Kingdom and France with an A340.

Scoot will be using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner to commence their operation to Athens.

Lead-in prices start at SG$288 upwards, ScootBiz at SG$888. If you can commit to book early, Scoot are offering 10% off with code GREEKON on FLYBAG & FLYBAGEAT fares.

Scoots choice of Athens is an interesting one to say the least – not one of the first traditional long haul destinations one would think of from Asia.

In terms of connectivity – there’s plenty of connections from Athens to the rest of Europe – be it through incumbent flag carrier Aegean Airways. Low cost connections can be found with Ryanair, EasyJet, Transavia and Vueling.

At Singapore, there will be ample opportunities to connect with Scoot, TigerAir, Air Asia, Jetstar Asia and plenty of other airlines.

Of course, there are legacy airline options at each end.

I must admit – the choice of Athens is a surprise as a starting route to Europe in my view. Obviously, Scoot must had done the research to ensure the route is sustainable.

It will be interesting to watch how this route performs when it comes into service next year.

For those who want to consider a cheap round-the-world, this could be a useful way to cut out a lot of short-haul flying between Europe and Asia.

Editors note: I know I’m late on writing this. Other matters have got in the way… but this is still important enough to write about…
