British Airways to add winter ski routes from Manchester

13/07/2017 by Kevincm

It seems British Airways really wants to make its Cityflyer operation earn its keep over the weekends, with the announcement the airline is to operate flights from Manchester to winter ski destinations.

Manchester will have a weekend service, operating to Salzburg in Austria and Chambery in France, operating  every Saturday from December through to April.

Timetables have been released for the route

Manchester –  Salzburg

DEPART SZG 17:10 ARRIVE MAN 18:30

Commences 15th December 2017
Operates Saturdays only

DEPART CMF 10:55 ARRIVE MAN 12:00

Commences 15th December 2017
Operates Saturdays only

Lead-in fares start at £49 each way.

Earlier this year in May-  British Airways began to use its CityFlyer fleet to operate routes from airports other than the usual London Airports.

For those who lived in the North West of England, this resulted in 35,000 new seats over the summer.

Flights will be operated with a two-class Embraer E-190. Since there’s no seat blocking however, there’s not much benefit to flying Club Europe…

British Airways seems happy with the deployment. Luke Hayhoe, British Airways’ general manager customer and commercial, state:

“After a successful new summer programme from Manchester we have decided to continue our leisure flying with direct services to two of the most popular winter break destinations in Austria and France.”

It’s good to see that Manchester is continuing to gain more services – even if it’s a Saturday only service.

But it’s still a token effort to the regions for British Airways – who (and let’s be honest) need only commit one E-190 for a Saturday only service.

Hopefully, British Airways will realise they can operate more from the regions – and maybe shrug off the title of London Airways….

Any news of any other scraps to the ‘regions’? The EDI-PMI flight this summer seems to have been a success using BA LCY planes. Also the DUB flight too.
