One of the things that have really annoyed me is the annoyance that is the breakfast in Economy class (World Traveller) on British Airways.
Mostly because of that dreaded ambient basket pass… which whilst reducing costs – it gave a really poor passenger experience with a choice of a muffin top or a granola bar.
BA breakfast circa October 2016 – Image, Economy Class and Beyond (BA216 Washington DC to London Heathrow).
Easy, but cheap and minimal effort.
Earlier this year, British Airways backtracked on this change, with an improved product rolling out for its Economy passengers.
But is it any good?
Cream Cheese filled my pretzel bread – BA296 Chicago to London Heathrow.
Whilst no breakfast box that American Airlines has to offer over the pond, a fresh item like this is a welcome change from an airline that gave out sugar highs, and introducing carbs and fillings. The preztelbread was soft enough to chew on (and feel filling), whilst the cream cheese added for a light texture.
It’s not ho bacon roll (as I once had on a UK Domestic flight – before that was downsized from that service), but… it’s an improvement
And it shows a something that British Airways has been missing for some time – an attention to detail in the lower classes of travel.
It’s not the biggest of changes in the world, and yet it can be distributed and cleaned up fast for a second service – which in crew service terms works pretty well.
And it’s not a fun sized Mars Bar or a Muffin top – so, bonus marks there.
Hopefully – it’s a step-change from British Airways who have been cutting the passenger experience hard at the back of the plane a bit too hard. And dread the thought – an uptick in the general product.
