The British Airways route map continues to expand with its 26th destination in the North America – Pittsburgh.

The route will operate four days a week from April 2019, based on the following timetable:

BA171 DEPART LHR 17:00 ARRIVE 20:15
BA170 DEPART PIT 21:50 ARRIVE 10:25+1

Commences 2nd April 2019
Operates in both directions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays
Booked Equipment: Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner

British Airways will use a three-class Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on the route, configured with:

  • 35 Club World (Business Class) in 2-3-2
  • 25 World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy seats) in 2-3-2
  • 154 World Traveller (Economy seats) in the usual cramp 3-3-3 formation

You can check out my views on the British Airways 787-8 in World Traveller Plus here and here.

Sean Doyle, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances on the route launch stated

“We are extremely pleased to be adding Pittsburgh to our global network of over 250 destinations. With the roll-out of WiFi on our longhaul flights and the ongoing investment we’re making in the customer experience on the ground and in the air, we’re proud to be flying the flag for high quality transatlantic travel.”

The airline has released its lead-in pricing, with return fares starting at £600 in World Traveller and £1068 in World Traveller Plus.

The route is open for booking now, and Avios availability is wide open for those who wish to burn points.

Pittsburgh is by no means new to the BA network. The airline daily between Heathrow and Pittsburgh via Washington from May 13, 1986, until June 1993 when it moved its service to Gatwick.

The airline operated this route with a daily service until 31 October 1999.

It’s a return to the network, with IAG focusing a lot of effort on North America (in all their long haul fleets – British Airways, LEVEL and Iberia).

It of course helps that there’s launch aid provided to the tune of US $1.5million a year for two years  according to The Pittsburgh Post Gazette .

Which – let’s be honest – would have helped the process along…
