With the UK Summer Holiday season now in full swing, there are of course some who take their drinking… a little too excessively.
The UK Government launched a programme to coincide with the holiday’s called “One Too Many“, with some rather ominous threats.
The programme has a rather dry set of agreed a voluntary code of practice which has been developed by members of Airlines UK, the Airport Operators Association, the Airport Police Commanders Group, the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers and the UK Travel Retail Forum.
The code of practice can be seen here, which underpins the big headline threats above.
Airports that will be taking part in this code of practice include:
- East Midlands Airport, Manchester Airport, London Stansted (Manchester Airport Group)
- Aberdeen Airport, Glasgow Airport, Southampton Airport (AGS Airports)
- Bristol Airport
- Birmingham Airport
- Gatwick Airport
Incidents like this – whilst rare – are increasing.
Earlier this year, Birmingham Airport ran its own campaign earlier this year to highlight the issue of excessive drinking before boarding.
And it’s sad that a code of conduct has to be drawn up because of the behaviour of a some individuals who have had one to many on the ground or in the air spoil it for everyone.
Many people enjoy a drink or two before and during travelling – but don’t let the drink ruin your holiday. Moderate your intake, and if you’re drinking because you’re scared of flying, consider looking at one of the Flying without fear/fearless flying courses operated by British Airways and EasyJet.
The “One Too Many” campaign will run on Instagram and FaceBook over the summer.
