Embattled airline WOW Air finally pulled the plug on its services today. with the airline ceasing operations
It seems the embattled airlines, who had both Indigo partners and Iceland Air walked away from them twice, and could not raise enough cash through a planned debt to equity swap.
For the staff affected – it’s a poor state of affairs. Hopefully, IcelandAir will have an expansion plan.
For passengers that are stuck. the will need to hope on the kindness of other airlines if they can provide rescue flights.
For those who failed to book a backup option
- If you paid with a credit card, contact your issuer to attempt to get a refund
- If you brought your ticket from a travel agent as part of a package holiday, check your local rights (ABTA in the UK) There may be recourse there.
- Check your travel insurance if you can, and if they cover airline failure
- Or line up as a creditor of WOW Air.

The move will end WOW Air’s operation and challenge across the pond.
Who’s next?
It was predicted at APEX Expo that a lot of the low-cost carriers have a lot of talk and a lot of red ink. Whilst the market maybe thinning out with FlyBMI, Primera, Colbot, VLM and others going to the wall, there is far too much room with volatile fuel prices and limited aircraft deliveries for some airlines to survive.
The question is… who is next?
