Finnair adds Helsinki – Tokyo Haneda

07/10/2019 by Kevincm

Finnair is increasing its footprint to Japan, with the announcement of a new service between Helsinki Vantaa to Tokyo Haneda.

The new flight will be added for the Summer 2020 season, and is planned to operate daily.

Timings are as follows:

AY061 DEPART HEL 00:50 ARRIVE HND  17:15
AY062 DEPART HND 01:35 ARRIVE HEL 05:30

Commences from Helsinki 29th March 2020.
Times subject to slot restrictions and government approval
Booked Equipment: Airbus A350-900
Data: Finnair

The route will be run in conjunction with the Finnair and Japan Airline services to Tokyo Narita Airport. The flight will also be offered as a code-share with Japan Airlines, allowing for connectivity at Tokyo Haneda to JAL’s domestic and international network.

In quotes

Ole Orvér, Chief Commercial Officer at Finnair said

“Finnair has operated over 35 years between Japan and Finland. With the new flights, we are happy to offer even better connections between Tokyo and over 100 destinations in Europe,”

“We also have a strong commitment to Narita Airport and will continue flying from there as well.”

Increasing coverage in Japan

This will be Finnair’s sixth destination in Japan – with the airline currently serving Tokyo Narita, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka at the moment. Sapporo will also join the network in December. And its an important market for the airline, as Japan is Finnair’s largest market outside its domestic network

With such a market, a move into Tokyo Haneda was inevitable – as it gives easy connections to Japan Airline’s network, along with the ease of accessing Central Tokyo (rather than spending time on the Narita Express/Keisai Skyliner.).

Of course, a lot of this will be down to the final timings. These are slowly appearing on Finnair’s site – but expect them to move as the slot allocations are sorted…
