With the last passengers off the aircraft, it was my friends and I turn to leave. She managed to get up and head to the jetbridge – where there was a short wait for a wheelchair.
Eventually, the wheelchair assistance came and we headed off. My friend headed off in the lift, whilst I headed up the escalator.
We’re going up ,up, up, oooh.
I met my friend at the top, where a waiting transit car was waiting to take us from Gate 28 to Flight Connections and the UK Border.

Let’s go… in a different way I normally go…
Although something I never noticed before when walking – is how bumpy the little golf carts can be over the metal dividing sections.
We made it to the UK Border where my friend was handed over to a different agent to take them through immigration. We were both taken through the Passengers Requiring Assistance channel to re-enter the United Kingdom.
Both of us were let back into the country (with the chip in my passport appearing to work again after deciding not to work for months on end).
Once we were clear Here, we were handed off to another person – who would take us to luggage reclaim and our drop-off point.
With no luggage to reclaim, we exited into the public area of Terminal 3, where the assistant agent kindly pushed my friend to the Heathrow Express platforms.

At the Heathrow Express platofrms, my friend managed to get up safely and walk over to the arriving train.
Welcome to Heathrow Express.
With minimal steps and stairs to climb, my friend felt ok to travel onwards… and to drive back to Birmingham (I did offer to drive, but she seemed rejuvenated after the rest of the flight).

We tracked back to Terminal 5 – where the express lifts took us back up to departures. From there, we turned left to the exit, and to the elevator to Level 2 of the car park.
This is where the Pods pick up at – and thankfully there was Pod waiting for us.
We boarded and headed back to Station A.

A five-minute ride later – and we were back at Station A.

The Pod at rest
Thankfully, it was a short walk to the car – with my friend’s car in spitting distance. In addition, by the time we got back in the car, we had 3 minutes of parking time left.
Plenty of time to get out of… well – by the time we reached the barriers, we had a minute to hand.
With us all set to go, we exited the Pod car park and began the two-hour drive to Birmingham. Well – almost. We had to loop back to the car park because I thought I had lost my phone. Turned out it was on the dashboard, blended in the darkness.
I can be that dumb some days.
With everything secure – we hit the M25 and tracked back. I constantly checked on my friend to see if she was ok, or needed a rest – but I think her homing pigeon instinct had kicked. We, therefore, skipped services along the motorway and proceed onto the M42 and M6.
Back on the road again
Finally, we peeled off onto the A38M, and towards my flat.
Less than 15 hours before we began – I was at my front door, at the end of a grand day out. My friend made it home shortly after, safe and rested.
Finally – Sometimes, the best adventures are shared.
