The airline has signed for 20 Embraer E175 aircraft which will be delivered in a 76 configuration. These aircraft will be operated by for American Airlines under the American Eagle brand on US Regional routes.

Embraer states the order is valued at US$ 972 million (although we all know that no-one pays list prices).

Deliveries of the type will commence in the second half of 2020 to SkyWest. These will join the existing Embraers operated by SkyWest (which operate for Delta Connection, United Express and Alaska Airlines)

In quotes

Charlie Hillis, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, North America, Embraer Commercial Aviation.

“Embraer and SkyWest enjoy a partnership marked by a longstanding history of service to the mainline carriers, and we relish the opportunity to break new ground,”

“Today, we are excited to announce that these 20 new aircraft will be the first E-Jets operated by SkyWest within the American Airlines network.”

Chip Childs, President and Chief Executive Officer of SkyWest, Inc.

“We’re pleased to continue advancing our position in the industry with this latest order of new Embraer aircraft,”

“We appreciate the long-standing partnership with Embraer and look forward to operating this outstanding aircraft for all four of our mainline partners.”

A long relationship

SkyWest has operated Embraer aircraft since 1986 – when it took delivery of the EMB 120 Brasilia. Today, it operates around 180 E175 aircraft its regional fleet.

The airline also is an operator of the Bombardier CRJ-100, CRJ-200 (covering 50 seats), CRJ-700 and CRJ-900 (covering 70 to 76 seats).

The E175 (and in fact the E-Jets family) is a favourite of a lot of passengers out there – not only for the premium seating options it can offer (with some having first-class cabins, some with premium seating). It retains the ability to feel spacious, with a 2-2 configuration in an economy layout – which for some regional aircraft, is a miracle in itself.

For passengers – the E175 is a welcome travel experience.
