Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (7th March)

07/03/2020 by Kevincm

It’s time to stop shopping for toilet tissue, air masks and antibacterial gel, as we dive into last weeks aviation news in Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond

For this week’s “Photos from my iPhone when I’m going from one place to another”  – Cherry Blossoms in full bloom over at Aston University, Birmingham.

Covid-19 (Human Malware)

This weeks posts have been dominated by two headlines – and Covid-19 seems to be one of them. Sadly, don’t expect airlines to stop issuing releases about this. By the by – you are washing your hands aren’t you?

  • Airlines drop connectivity to Northern Italy
  • Singapore Airlines extends network cuts
  • Finnair increases cuts – Seoul, Busan and Osaka on the block
  • Loganair and Eastern Airways attempt to fill some of FlyBe’s routes
  • Lufthansa Group adds flexiblity to its booking policies
  • Lufthansa plans 50% network cuts and A380 grounding

The Fallout of FlyBe collapsing

This week has been another hard one on the UK aviation community – with Flybe going into administration at possibly the worst possible time.

  • FlyBe collapses into administration – all flights suspended
  • Loganair and Eastern Airways attempt to fill some of FlyBe’s routes

The Saga of BER

If we need a moment of brightness in these times, Berlin Brandenburg Airport is it. They’re sticking to their 31st October opening date. And Mutti Lufthansa has made its intention known.

  • Pigs Might Fly: Lufthansa Group sets the dates to the move to Berlin Brandenburg Airport – However, I’m not convinced.

Passenger Experience Week

Sadly, the Human Malware has forced the postponement of a lot of events. In the aviation world – that means Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX), World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE), the Passenger Experience Conference (PEC) and The Crystal Cabin Awards (CCA) have been postponed.

  • Aircraft Interiors Expo postponed – Hopefully when the new dates are announced, we’ll be there!

Next Week

We’ll be continuing our Covid-19 coverage, with airlines trying to muddle through the situation. We’ll also be covering our usual mixture of network network news, passenger experience and other things that catch my eye.

Until then, stay safe!
