airBaltic lines up its Summer 2021 schedule

11/12/2020 by Kevincm

airBaltic of Lativa is getting ready for Summer 2021, with plans to add five new destinations to its network

The airline is planning to operate 65 destinations from its Riga base. New for the summer season are five new destinations.

These are:

  • Bergen, Norway
  • Manchester, United Kingdom
  • Trondheim, Norway
  • Yekaterinburg, Russia
  • Yerevan, Armenia

As well as these new destinations, the airline is planning to resume 17 other routes it did not serve during 2020

airBaltic operates the Airbus A220-300 exclusively in its fleet, with 23 aircraft in it. These are configured in a 2-3 setup, with 145 seats installed.

In Quotes

Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic:

“The safety and health of our employees and passengers has stood and will stand above all. We see that people miss travelling. I strongly believe that the demand for flights will begin to grow in the coming months once reliable solutions such as vaccines and wider testing to limit the spread of Covid-19 are introduced.”

“Although flying will surely be different, we plan that by next summer, with certain restrictions in place, more travel options will be available. As the main connectivity provider in the Baltics, we must be ready for that moment, so we have already published our planned schedule. We will continue to provide flights to various key business destinations as well as to popular leisure getaways,”

Looking into the Summer

Whilst demand remains suppressed, it seems airBaltic are taking things slowly – even if their CEO is type-rated to fly the Airbus A220-300. With airlines hoping to tap into the pent up demand to travel after a year of people trapped at home over the year, getting the destinations lined up and ready shows some confidence in the year ahead.

How it will pan out – is another question.
