Both Frankfurt and Munich will gain extra routes. Breaking the offering down, here are the new routes from both Munich and Frankfurt:
Munich
- Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), twice a week
- Cancún (Mexico), twice a week
- Las Vegas, Nevada (United States of America), twice a week
These routes will start in March 2022.
Frankfurt
- Fort Myers, Florida, (United States of America), three times a week from March 2022
- Panama City, (Panama), three times a week from March 2022, three times a week
- Salt Lake City, Utah (United States of America), May 2022, three times a week
- Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), June 2022, twice a week
These flights will all be operated by Eurowings Discover – the tourist brand of Lufthansa Group. From the renderings, the airline will utilise Airbus A330s on the routes.
The new Lufthansa Group airline will specialise in tourist travel from the Frankfurt and Munich hubs, taking on Condor and other airlines who are chasing after tourist traffic.
Pricings and timings have not been disclosed at the time of publication. The flights however will be sold with Lufthansa flight numbers with tickets on sale from 26th May 2021.
Another crack at the leisure long haul
Eurowings in the past have played with long haul operations, with them scaled back in 2020. It seems with leisure passengers being one of the bigger drivers of the recovery, they want to excite passengers into travelling to new destinations.
We will see if people are clamouring to book tickets soon enough.
