Heathrow Airport has re-opened Terminal 4 – once again to handle arrivals from Red LIst Counties.
Terminal 4 will act as a separate arrivals facility, keeping direct red list arrivals away from passengers in all other operational terminals.
According to Heathrow Airport
“this safety-first approach delivers a more efficient journey for all passengers, alongside a multiple layered approach that will keep passengers and colleagues safe – including mandatory requirement of face coverings, intensive robotic cleaning regimes across the airport, enhanced ventilation in immigration halls and COVID marshals on hand.”
Want to or need to get tested?
Passengers flying into Heathrow will be able to use PCR testing facilities either on or close to the airport.
Those choosing to test at the airport must pre-book in advance. With the upcoming change in arrivals testing, expect these centres to get busier.
ExpressTest offers on-site COVID-19 testing as required, whilst Collison has an off-site test centre on Bath Road. Other providers may be in the area too, as well as at-home testing services.

Heathrow Chief Operating Officer, Emma Gilthorpe at Heathrow said:
“We are supportive of measures that protect public health and prevent the spread of COVID. The rapid introduction of restrictions for international travel will nonetheless be a further significant blow for British exporters and those wanting to visit friends and relatives. Keeping the changes under constant review and a Government commitment to the removal of red list countries, as soon as it is safe to do so, will help. Heathrow maintains the highest levels of COVID-secure measures to ensure our passengers, colleagues and partners know that Heathrow is a safe place to travel to and from.”
A growing red list
The UK Red List sadly isn’t getting any smaller, with Nigeria being the latest country to be added. As things progress, we’ll see how many more arrivals from these countries are sent to Terminal 4.
No normality for T4 yet
With traffic still down, Heathrow operations are focused on the Central Terminal Area and T5, whilst T4 has existed between being mothballed and being arrivals handling for Red List countries.
It seems that Red List handling is its future for now until the red lists subside and travel begins to return to normal.
That could be a long way to go with the way things are going.
