SNAPSHOT: Crowne Plaza, Helsinki

Time for another snapshot – looking at the hotel experience of the Crowne Plaza in Helsinki.

In case you’ve forgotten how we do travel write-ups on Economy Class and Beyond, I have two major travel writing styles:

  • Trip Reports – These are full deep-dive reports taking you into the experience and the small things… as well as the big things!
  • Snapshots – These are bite-sized reviews that show you the basic product in some nice gentle headlines (and normally, only images shot on the phone).

Today, we’re on the Snapshot. The full in-depth review is a work in progress (I’ve only got as far as the first bit at the time of writing).

Location

The Hotel whilst under a kilometre away from Helsinki Central Station does require a tram ride on either tram 2 or 4, as it’s a semi-circuitous route. The hotel can be spotted when travelling into Helsinki by train, as it is across the lake from the rail line.

For those who love their sport, it is near the Helsinki Olympic Stadium too.

Check-in

Check-in was on the ground floor of the hotel. I was welcomed and payment was taken for the room. Per IHG guidelines, I was offered a welcome amenity or points.

Points were taken in this case, as my points balance is not what I’d call “optimal”.

I was also upgraded to the Club Level, with access to the Club lounge. My rate also included breakfast, with a choice of dining in the club lounge or the larger restaurant on the ground floor.

The Room

The Club Room provided was… large to put it mildly (you have to remember, the last hotel I was in was a shoebox), with a king bed.

This being an upscale Crowne Plaza, it was fully stacked with amenities.

a black cabinet with a small refrigerator and a small safe

The bathroom was also a large space, with room to move about in, with a bath/shower combo unit.

Club Lounge

A Club lounge was provided on the 9th floor of the hotel. This was used as a lounge, but also as a breakfast area for those who didn’t want to venture downstairs, as well as providing a space for a happy hour during the evening.

Breakfast

Breakfast was provisioned at the rate I was on. That was hosted in the downstairs restaurant.

Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi was provisioned, with about 25Mb download speed measured

Check out

Checking out of the hotel was simply a matter of presenting the room key and stating the room number to check out.

The full review of the Crowne Plaza Helsinki is coming soon!
