Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (28th October)

28/10/2023 by Kevincm

As we approach Halloween, we’re also approaching the end of Daylight Saving Time.

So, as the clocks go back, it’s time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

After a few days of not doing much, we’re on backfill duty at the moment. Headlines and stories are a few days behind at the moment, but for now, enjoy some aged headlines with some commentary. For those of you on the daily newsletter, this will now arrive at midnight as opposed to 1 a.m. – until North American clocks go forward again.

To paraphrase Ford Prefect – Time is an illusion, Daylight savings time doubly so…

The Business of Aviation

  • Change at the top of Qatar Airway Group – So, this article came out when I was trying to work at the Swissport lounge, which explains some of the grammatical errors when I was losing connection to the airport wifi. That was a disaster of a lounge. Oh yes.. headline summary. Shy retiring CEO to move on.
  • Etihad Airways and Scandinavian Airlines announce a codeshare – It seems that there’s confidence with new money coming into SAS
  • Lufthansa’s City Airlines set to launch in Summer 2024 – Another airline within an airline gets ready to take off

New Aircraft News

  • Skywest orders additional Embraer E175 for United Airlines operations – 19 more on the way

Passenger Experience

  • Finnair to update its Embraer fleet with new interiors – although what exactly they’re putting in the cabins, they have yet to reveal.
  • British Airways completes the Heathrow Terminal 5B Lounge refresh – With the capacity issues and age of the main lounges, there has to be some refurbishment work on the horizon…

Routes and Networks

  • Return of the Whalejet – Lufthansa to operate A380s to Bangkok – Oh, and Los Angeles too.
  • jetBlue adds Dublin and Edinburgh to its network, with Paris gaining expanded services – Seasonal services with A321neo and Paris gets more A321LRs
  • Air France prepares for a busy Winter 2023 timetable, as well as the return of a classic flight number… Flight numbers not seen since 2003…

Pretty Pictures

  • Asiana Airlines Cargo Boeing 747-400F arriving at Chicago O’Hare International

Next Week

As the main trip report enters production next week (I’ve got more than a sinking feeling most of next week’s evenings will be spent in a Coffee shop until late), we’ve got a series of Snapshots to tide you over.

On top of that, we have our usual mixture of news, views, and opinions, as well as a lot of backfill still to clear from the last week.

Until then, stay safe and happy landings!
