Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (7/8th September)

07/09/2024 by Kevincm

It appears that I am back in the land of rain, and darkening evenings. However, even as I come off the high of my Singapore Trip, I’ve got a typing backlog that’s embarrassing.

Nonetheless, it’s time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Quieter moments at the dock –  Suomenlinna, Helsinki, Finland.

We’re almost back up to speed after someone last week decided that my iPhone looked better than theirs in Singapore (and I’ve got a long writeup on that coming soon too). It was an interesting trip to Singapore – to put it mildly.

Travel advice

  • Remember: Pay in “Local Currency” when using plastic (and avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion) – Or “watch the pennies”.

Routes and Networks

It’s been busy in route land, with airlines getting their summer 2025 plans in place.

  • Virgin Atlantic to add Riyadh and Accra to its network – A new and returning destination for Virgin Atlantic
  • American Airlines plots five international routes for Summer 2025, as well as a lot more – with capacity increases and early route restarts
  • Etihad Airways adds Prague and Warsaw to its network – Central Europe calling Abu Dhabi…
  • Malaysia Airlines to return to Paris – Back after a 10-year break

Alliances

  • Scandinavian Airlines officially joins SkyTeam, exits Star Alliance  – A founding member of one alliance heads off with new friends
  • Star Alliance status match for SAS EuroBonus members is *go* – If it works, go for a match

Pretty Pictures

  • Airplane Art – Cathay Pacific Airbus A350-900 at Hong Kong International Airport

Next Week

I’m back on the ground for a while, so I’ll be turning my attention to some of the usual things we look forward to post-trip-  a series of Snapshots.

And trust me – there’s a lot to write, from flights to capsule hotels.

As well as that the news cycle is finally returning to some sense of normality, so we’ll have our usual mixture of news that comes through the front door

Until then, Happy Landings!
