Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (3rd May)

03/05/2025 by Kevincm Leave a Comment

We’re into the first of the May Bank Holidays in the United Kingdom, and I’m on the ground. There are good reasons, as I’ve dumped an airfare and a bit extra into a new project (which I’ll be writing about at length later).

For now, it’s Saturday again, so it must be time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Selfridges at The Bull Ring Centre, Birmingham
Selfridges at The Bull Ring Centre, Birmingham, with more construction work going up. More flats coming to the city.

TRIP REPORT: Springtime Transatlantic Adventures

Three more sections from the trip report this week. Four parts next week as I integrate it into my normal Sunday coverage…

  • BA295 London Heathrow to Chicago O’Hare (WORLD TRAVELLER PLUS)
  • Into the USA and the avid Hotel, Des Plaines
  • Hyatt Regency O’Hare, Rosemont

Fleets

  • Icelandair to shed its widebody fleet – there 767-300ERs on the way out by the end of 2029

Seating and Interiors

  • Etihad unveils its new Airbus A321LR interiors – Three classes aboard an A321LR. Hmmm.
  • flynas selects Safran Seating seats for their next 60 aircraft – With Safran’s Z200 seat selected

Passenger Experience

  • Jet2 to take off with Costa Coffee – More Coffee Choices aboard Jet2
  • American Airlines to bring “Afternoon Tea” onboard – You do NOT want to know how many times I howled out laughing when I went through AA’s statement.

Routes and Networks

  • Ascend Airways UK relinks UK and Sierra Leone – with a 737 MAX

Trains

  • East Midlands Railway unveils its refurbished Turbostar Trains – Improvements for EMR’s regional fleet

Pretty Pictures

  • Airplane Art – Etihad Airways Airbus A350-1000 climbing out of Chicago O’Hare

Next Week

Whilst it’s Bank Holiday weekend in England at least (and thus, no going into the office on Monday), there is still the trip report in flight.

I’ve also got a few other things on the cook (least of all, I’m in the process of moving at least 16 Terrabytes of data around my storage solutions… which is going as well as you can think it’s going, especially over a Gigabit ethernet connection ).

On top of that, we’ll be keeping an eye on the headlines and anything else that passes through our front door.

Until then, enjoy the long weekend.

And, Happy Landings!
