For the upcoming winter season, British Airways is trying to convince passengers onto shorthaul routes from Gatwick and London City Airport.
BA Euroflyer, British Airways’ Gatwick-based subsidiary, will operate year-round services to the capital of Morocco, Rabat, and the Austrian city break destination, Graz, from the 2025 winter season, whilst BA Cityflyer, British Airways’ London City-based subsidiary, will operate a route to Madrid.

Karen Hilton, Managing Director of BA Euroflyer, said:
“We’re excited to further strengthen our connectivity between London and Austria with the addition of Graz. We will be the only direct operation between the two cities, offering more choice to our customers, whether it’s for business, leisure, or visiting friends and family.
“With its year-round warm weather, Morocco is ideal for those seeking an off-season escape without a lengthy flight time. The addition of Rabat means we now fly to three fantastic destinations in Morocco – an excellent choice for families, couples, and friends alike.”
Some buckets and spades, but an interesting Madrid option
Holiday traffic continues to be the name of the game out of Gatwick, with the routes to Graz and Rabat very much targeted at the leisure traveller.
The London City to Madrid option, however, opens a lot of possibilities for travellers East of London (be it Kent or Essex, and beyond), opening connections through Madrid, without the hassle of going halfway around the M25 to reach Heathrow (which isn’t fun any time of day).
As well as South America, Madrid opens up North America as well as Asia services.
And for those avoiding Heathrow, that could be really valuable.
