LATAM to use Recaro PL3530 in its Premium Economy product

27/08/2025 by Kevincm

RECARO Aircraft Seating has announced its retrofit collaboration with LATAM Airlines Group (LATAM) for its new Premium Comfort cabin, scheduled for to fly in 2027.

The retrofit programme includes 41 shipsets of the PL3530 long-range premium class seat, with the first shipset delivery scheduled for the first half of 2027. These will be installed in LATAM’s fleet of Boeing 787-8 and Boeing 787-9 long-range aircraft.

The move is part of LATAM’s fleet to introduce Premium Economy, allowing it to offer a space for travellers seeking the ideal balance between rest and productivity. This new space will provide an exclusive environment with wider seats, greater recline, increased pitch, and lower passenger density, resulting in significantly enhanced onboard comfort and privacy.

Like most Premium Economy products, it will be positioned between Business Class and Premium Economy.

The PL3530 premium class seat offers an increased width, industry-leading 40-inch seat pitch, privacy wings, and a generous 8-inch recline, perfect for passengers seeking extra living space to relax or work.

Furthermore, the seats come with a Panasonic Astrova in-flight entertainment system, featuring 16-inch 4K screens, Bluetooth audio pairing, USB-C fast charging, and AC power outlets, ensuring passengers remain connected and entertained throughout their flight.

Paulo Miranda, Vice President of Customers at LATAM Airlines Group.

“Premium Comfort reflects our deep understanding of our customers’ evolving needs and our commitment to providing more options so every passenger can travel the way they want. It is a product that combines comfort, space, and high-level service with exceptional value, and it also represents a statement of how we envision the future of flying from South America to the world: a journey where privacy, design, and the warmth of our region come together to create a unique experience,”

Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO of RECARO Aircraft Seating and RECARO Holding.

“Our close collaboration with LATAM will result in a truly unique seat for their Premium Comfort Class passengers,” says  “The PL3530 model offers premium comfort, elevates privacy to a new level, and will be a standout addition to their fleet and the South American market.

A major investment

With airlines constantly seeking places where segregation makes sense, LATAM is going in feet-first with a Premium Economy platform for its long-haul Boeing 787 fleet. It’s no small investment – with the airline pumping in over US$100 million into this programme.

Routes as yet have yet to be decided – but it will be good to see this product brought out of the shadows and into passenger hands and backs, especially for those longer segments where a little more space will offer a lot more comfort.
