Chinese carrier China Southern Airlines is to launch a route between Beijing and Helsinki after a five-year break.

The route is a resumption of one that was operated five years ago, as conditions have improved enough for China Southern to take an interest in the destination. China Southern will operate the route between Beijing Daxing International Airport and Helsinki Airport.

Initially, the service will operate three times a week between 29th March and 19th June 2026, flying on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. From the 20th of June onwards, this will turn into a daily service.

To support the route, China Southern Airlines will operate the route with a Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

For passengers departing from Beijing, the new route offers a time-efficient flight to Finland, with transfer connections available from Helsinki Airport to other European destinations. For passengers from Finland, there is an extensive number of transfer connections available from Beijing Daxing International Airport across China and Asia, including South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Bangladesh.

Petri Vuori, Senior Vice President responsible for route development at Finavia, said:

“We are pleased to see highly demanded Beijing route re-opened after a five-year break. This flight will mark the first time China Southern Airlines is operating to Helsinki Airport and to the Nordics. The flight will serve both business and leisure travel in both directions,”

Further Chinese Connections

China continues to be served from Finland. Currently, airlines Finnair and Juneyao Airlines fly to Shanghai and Juneyao Airlines to Zhengzhou. With China Southern adding Beijing to the network, it will provide further connectivity for customers who do not want a change of aircraft during their travels.

For China Southern, the resumption of the route adds to its European portfolio, with the airline serving Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam, Rome, Frankfurt, London, Luxembourg and Istanbul as they seek to build connections for its travellers, be it for business or leisure, as well as building cargo capacity.
