Well in a move to get people flying after the 30th Olympiad, it seems that fare sale season has hit, with cheap fares loaded on long haul routes from London to the USA (with me looking at London - Chicago Routes): Currently those on sale have about £30 - £70 off with the following groupings taking part: AirFrance/Delta/KLM British Airways/American … [Read more...]
Airplane Art – British Airways Airbus A318
It's Sunday, so it must be time for some more Airplane art. This week - well what else could it be? It's a British Airways Airbus A318 Elite sitting at London City Airport before it begins it hop to Shannon and then New York. The image is clickable if you want to see a larger version – and yes you can keep them for your desktops! More Airplane Art of course … [Read more...]
Greetings from NYC (and some parents need to control their kids…)
My thoughts on BA1: excellent service, excellent product. A full trip report will be coming soon. Now, whilst the crew and product were excellent, I'm going to win no friends at all with parents (Sorry Mommypoints), but there were elements on the flight ruined due to hyperactive kids... And their parents not controlling them (for example, using the set as a climbing frame, … [Read more...]
So which way AM I going to New York?
A few months ago I posed a question to you all in the form of a poll: Well lets discount a few of these... There isn't a hope in hell I'm swimming or rowing in that direction! Me. On Virgin. After all the lovely things I write about this airline? I somehow think not... I may like Deltalina, but I'm skipping Delta as I've got no Elite Status (does … [Read more...]
IAG turns in a loss
International Airlines Group (BA/Iberia/BMI) is having a bad time of it - loosing €390m ($476m; £306m) loss for the six months to the end of June. This is especially bad as the group turned in a €39 million pre-tax profit in the same period in 2011. Revenue increased in the period by10% to €8.5bn vs €7.8bn in the same timeframe. Whilst revenue has been up, costs has also … [Read more...]
The beginnings of something quite mad… (well BCN)
I like to fare hunt - it's almost a sport in itself. When I fare hunt, mad ideas start to form, and gel (the like of which normally ends with me having a bad back for weeks after walking around cities for hours). But anyway, I did a bit of hunting and digging and found a little gem for the mid-end of hundreds of Euros (and it's still live from the looks of it - fiddle with … [Read more...]
Qantas to throw in the London/Frankfurt towel and tie up with Emirates?
Never state the impossible, as that is what could well be happening according to the Australian Financial Review. Qantas and Emirates are edging together in a move to counteract the losses that the international division of Qantas makes, whilst taking a defensive posture over Etihad Airways with its recent increase in Virgin Australia. The plans include a lot of Emirates … [Read more...]
British Airways confirms A321’s to Cairo and Tel Aviv
In what will be a disappointment to some, British Airways will be moving some of the 747 fleet away from Cairo and Tel Aviv and switch them for Airbus A321's. But thankfully, not A321's configured in an EuroBusiness style. Instead, these routes will have the ex British Midland International Airbus A321's, with a reconfigured Club World Layout and an Economy Section. In … [Read more...]
Wonder what happens when a plane is sent off for an overhaul?
Well for those with an engineering interest, British Airways opened its doors to the BBC to film an episode of "Engineering Giants" where a BA 747-400 - G-CIVX is sent for a full strip-down, test, repair and rebuild the plane. The intro goes a bit like this: Engineer turned comedian Tom Wrigglesworth and Rob Bell, rising star of mechanical engineering, climb on board … [Read more...]
Farnborough Day 1 Roundup
As the first day of Farnborough 2012 draws to a close, lets take a look at what has been creating headlines today: Top of the bill goes to Steven Udvar-Hazy's Air Lease who have placed an a firm order for 60 Boeing 737 Max 8 and 15 Boeing 737 Max 9s with "reconfirmation rights" for 25 more. Expect those to be leased to airlines quickly when they arrive... Airbus … [Read more...]
