So, as some of you have noticed - I've been Vlogging some of my Hong Kong trip, and been playing with a new camera whilst on this trip - a Sony A5000 First up... the Sony A5000 is titchy compared to the hulking Digital SLR's I normally lug around on trips. I brought this with the supplied lens as 1) I didn't have time to go lens hunting for the "perfect" lens and 2) it's … [Read more...]
Travel Plus… Photography: Snapselect is free (and it works quite well)!
One of the problems I have when I take photos for trip reports is that I sometimes shoot a few too many photos. If you can call 5.5TB of photos "a few" photos. Snapselect by MacPhun is a tool that allows you to go through duplicates and easily identify them. Currently, Snapselect is FREE from the Apple App Store. Is it any good though? Firstly, check what it … [Read more...]
Travel Plus… Technology/Photography: Canon 100D – Hiking the down the Diamond Head
Time to return to a long-term test - my Canon 100D Digital SLR camera that I tend to throw in the bag when I'm travelling. The 100D in real life. For those of you who are interested in some background on the long-term test, have a look at it in San Francisco and Chicago. My interest in the 100D is simple - is it any good as a travel camera? Most of you know that I rate … [Read more...]
Trip Report Extra: London Fashion Weekend
Whilst the following doesn't lend to a normal trip report of any kind, it does involve travel and such, so it goes into the general pile. Besides, there's more to life than Premium Cabins isn't there? The Honolulu trip report is taking a break - It'll follow on after this sometime later today/tomorrow. Those who know me know that I more than "dabble" in photography - to … [Read more...]
The Canon 100D – The travel sized DSLR?
For reasons that are somewhat complex and annoying, I'm having to add an extra camera body to my collection (mainly as a backup camera). As cost was a pressure, I went for something a bit cheaper than the Mid-Range Canons (60D/70D), skipped the pro-line (another 6D would had been killer to the bank balance) and headed to the consumer line - which if handled with care can … [Read more...]
How do you get that air-to-air photo?
I was browsing Youtube just before heading to bed.. when I found this video with Aviation Photographer Jessica Ambats on how she works with the pilots and others to get some (quite frankly) amazing photos. Here's her video: And as a photographer in my remaining minutes of the day, I can see a lot of this and understand the work that goes into these. To paraphrase … [Read more...]
Storing those photographic memories…
As a lot of you know, I more than fiddle with a camera in my spare time. However, there comes a time when I have to start pruning the photo collections. Why you may ask? I've recently switched to a Canon 6D, and the file sizes are... well... enormous. I shoot Camera RAW files (as well as a lot on the iPhone), and here are the output files of a simple file (ISO … [Read more...]
Travel Technology – This is how I roll…
Gary has written about his travel tech. As a paid up member of The IT Crowd (and yes, I have said "Have you tried switching it off and on" more than I care in my career so far), this is my travel kit when I haul anchor. Minor disclaimer - as well as an IT Person, I am a Photographer. The kit is therefore tailored to that need too. Computer Yes, I'm a Mac (and for me … [Read more...]
I’m a photographer – not a terroist!
Time to divert from planes and trains... and move back to photography. It seems the photographer (professional, armature or anywhere in between) is now the thought "If you have a Digital SLR you logicly must be a terrorist in police thoughts. Lets remember a key tenant of the law: "the law does not restrict the right to photograph in the UK." Lets examine some … [Read more...]
