Question of our time: Dan Dan Noodles or Wanton Noodles?

29/03/2017 by Kevincm

So this morning has been interesting so far, with me sampling the catering delights at the Cathay Pacific lounge at London Heathrow.

Again.

Yes. Don’t look at me in that tone of voice. We’re here, so let’s deal with the question of our time.

If you’re at Heathrow Airport and you’ve (wisely) chosen the Cathay Pacific lounge as your departure lounge – which noodle dish should you have?  Should you go for the nutty wonderfulness that is Dan Dan Mein, or go for some prawn goodness that is the Wonton noodles?

Now there’s a dilemma if you’ve only got time for one bowl of noodle goodness to slurp down before you have to rush for your flight.

Let’s start with the Wonton Noodle soup.

Cathay Pacific noodle

The Noodle stock is Chicken flavoured – not overly strong. The Noodles themselves are reasonably chewy, whilst the wontons buried at the bottom of the bowl have a lovely prawn filling.  And there’s also a bit of leaf in deference of being healthy.

The bowl isn’t THAT big, compared to you’re in town Hong Kong dining establishments – more than enough for a tasty snack.

Let’s look at other big hitter – the Dan Dan Noodles.

Cathay Pacific noodle

The Dan Dan noodles are MUCH more creamy in the mouth than the Wonton noodles. The peanut sauce is a major contributor to this – but can over power the dish. It’s also a little spicy as well. The noodles are pretty firm too and chewy.

A much different texture to the Wonton noodles.

But which would I have?

Don’t make me choose…. please…

… please…

Oh well… I’d choose the below…

Cathay Pacific Char Su bun

Yes, a  Pork Cha Siu Bao. I’m easily pleased by steamed roasted pork buns in cute steamers.

With a side of Dan Dan Noodles. Sorry Wonton Noodles… you’re nice… but I like a bit of spice in my life. And Dan Dan Noodles fit the bill nicely.

But really – you can’t go wrong with the noodle options at the Cathay Pacific Noodle Bar. Even the vegetarian option didn’t look bad when I saw it in November.

So yes. There are plenty of noodle options at the Cathay Pacific London Heathrow Lounge – but unless you’ve got a peanut allergy – head to the Dan Dan Noodles.

Fast.

Not sure about the one in The UK, In HK you can customize your own, like dandan wanton noodle, or plain wanton without noodle or dandan vegetarian noodle……….., if you could name it, they can make it.
