SNCF has been busy, and yesterday formally launched two new extensions of the LGV Atlantique for it’s TGV Network (we don’t talk about the rebrand on this blog).
The new extensions of course have wonderful names
– LGV Bretagne-Pays de la Loire connecting Le Mans to Rennes
– LGV Sud Europe Atlantique connecting Tours to Bordeaux.

With the new lines opening come major time savings. SNCF estimate Paris to Rennes will take 1 hour and 25 minutes – a saving of 39 minutes compared to the conventional rail route that used to be used.
Meanwhile, those using the Sud Europe extension will have some major time savings – with the quickest journey taking 2 hours and 4 minutes between Paris to Bordeaux – a saving of 1 hours and 10 minutes.
Spectacle rare. Un #Rafale accompagne le 1er #TGV mettant Rennes à 1h25 de Paris. Merci @Armee_de_lair pour les images! #TGVAtlantique #SNCF pic.twitter.com/fH8JG88oYj

SNCF Networks CEO Patrick Jeantet states:
“This inauguration is the first step in what will be an historical year for high‐speed travel in France. In 2017, three new lines will reshape the rail landscape and bring places and people closer together. This is a praiseworthy accomplishment, the result of constant cooperation between LISEA and SNCF Réseau teams, and has brought about SEA, the first step in the biggest rail project that Europe has seen in years.”
Tickets are avalible now, and the lines are open to travel on.
SNCF once said that to beat air, your time from depature to arrival point has to be to be within a 3 hour 30 period. These new routes smash that number nicely, and open up a lot more connectivtiy to the West of Francee
